Leadership Lessons Daily: Day 102

Scripture Passage: Numbers 27:18-20
Honour is Required for Obedience
When God spoke to Moses, regarding handing over the mantle of leadership to Joshua, He said something very thought-provoking. He said, “And thou shalt put some of thine honour upon him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel may be obedient.” From this statement, we can deduce the following; Moses had honour, honour is transferable and Joshua would require some of Moses’ honour if the children of Israel would be obedient to him.
The lesson here is this; the leader who will be obeyed must have honour. Honour simply means high respect or great esteem. Where there is honour there will be obedience. And a leader who lacks honour will reap disobedience in those he leads. Therefore leaders must seek honour via a life of integrity. Finally, when honour is transferred from another leader it must not only be maintained but built upon.
Prayer: Father, give me the grace to live in integrity that I may live in honour.
