Leadership Lessons Daily: Day 127

Scripture Passage: Joshua 22:9-30
Leaders Do Not Act on Hearsay
The children of Israel assembled for war when they learnt that their brethren on the other side of Jordan had built an altar against the land of Canaan. The leaders of the different tribes led by Phinehas who was a spiritual leader, went to inquire about the altar. And the Bible says, “And when Phinehas the priest, and the princes of the congregation and heads of the thousands of Israel which were with him, heard the words that the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the children of Manasseh spake, it pleased them.” Things were not as they seemed and a war was not necessary.
The lesson here is this; leaders do not act on hearsay. They investigate every incidence and ascertain the truth before passing judgement or taking action. They usually hear from the “horse’s mouth” and understand what happened and why it happened. Only then do they act.
Prayer: Father, help me to thoroughly investigate all I hear and ascertain the truth before I act.
