Leadership Lessons Daily: Day 129

Scripture Passage: Judges 2:7-11
Without a Capable Successor the Vision Dies With the Leader
Joshua was a good leader but he handed over to no one. The vision perished with him and without a vision Israel soon went astray. The Bible says, “And the people served the Lord all the days of Joshua……and Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died……..and the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served Baalim.” Moses passed the baton over to Joshua but Joshua passed it to no one. The baton and the vision perished with him.
The lesson here is this; without a capable successor the vision dies with the leader. And without vision the people perish. Where the baton stops, the vision stops. The leader who fails to pass it on, will ultimately destroy the people. A leader whose vision will outlive him will invest in mentoring a successor to whom he will pass the baton.
Prayer: Father, help me to pass on the vision.
