Leadership Lessons Daily: Day 162

Scripture Passage: 2 Samuel 18:1-3
A Good Leader is Worth Ten Thousand Followers
As David numbered his men for the battle against Absalom, he indicated his desire to accompany them to battle. He said, “I will surely go forth with you myself also.” However, the people refused. They answered, “thou shalt not go forth: for if we flee away, they will not care for us; neither if half of us die, will they care for us: but now thou art worth ten thousand of us…”
The lesson here is this; a good leader is worth ten thousand followers. His value can be equated to the value of ten thousand followers, not because he is better than they but because he carries the vision and whatever hurts him hurts all who are part of the vision. The destruction of the sheep always begins with the destruction of the shepherd. Therefore leaders cannot afford to be careless with their lives as too many lives are tied to theirs.
Prayer: Father, help me to recognise my worth as a leader.
