Leadership Lessons Daily: Day 164

Scripture Passage: 1 Samuel 13:5-14
When Leaders Act in Fear they Make Mistakes
When Saul saw that Samuel delayed to come to Gilgal and sacrifice to the Lord, and that the people were scattered from him, he acted from a place of fear and sacrificed a burnt offering. When he was done Samuel showed up and said, “But now thy kingdom shall not continue….” Saul lost his throne to this mistake. And it was a mistake he made because he acted in fear.
The lesson here is this; when leaders act in fear they make mistakes. These mistakes are usually costly and occur because the leader is not giving much thought to his actions and the consequences thereof. Saul’s action taken in fear was a grave mistake. Fear made him impatient and he acted when he should have waited. Leaders must refrain from acting simply because they are afraid, as the consequences may be irreversible and thus regretted for a long time to come.
Prayer: Father, help me to refrain from acting in fear.
