Leadership Lessons Daily: Day 166

Scripture Passage: 1 Samuel 14:24-34
Unwise Leaders Bring Distress to those they Lead
In a battle between Israel and the Philistines, the Bible says, “And the men of Israel were distressed that day: for Saul had adjured the people, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth any food until evening, that I may be avenged on mine enemies. So none of the people tasted any food.” This fast was a heavy burden placed on an army that required physical strength to fight the enemy. And what was the outcome? The Bible says, “And the people flew upon the spoil, and took sheep, and oxen, and calves, and slew them on the ground: and the people did eat them with the blood.”
The lesson here is this; unwise leaders bring distress to those they lead. They achieve this by placing the people under burdens that are not only unbearable but are also unnecessary. Leaders exist to solve problems and ease burdens but only wise leaders know and demonstrate this.
Prayer: Father, help me to be a wise leader.
