Leadership Lessons Daily: Day 168

Scripture Passage: 1 Samuel 15:1-24
Weak Leaders Fear those they Lead
When Saul finally accepted responsibility for his error in failing to utterly destroy the Amalekites, he said to Samuel, “I have sinned; for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord, and thy words; because I feared the people and obeyed their voice.”
The lesson here is this; weak leaders fear those they lead. As a result, they are led by those that they should lead. And quite often, like Saul, such men and women lose their leadership position. Leadership requires courage and boldness to do what is right even when it is not popular with the people. However, the leader who is afraid of the people will seek to please them, not wanting to “rock the boat”. He will not do that which he knows to be right, rather he will please the people by doing what is popular and even when it is to their detriment in the long run.
Prayer: Father, give me the boldness to lead.
