Leadership Lessons Daily: Day 171

Scripture Passage: 1 Samuel 15:1-31
Insecure Leaders Crave the Acceptance of Men
Saul was concerned about how others viewed him and whether he was accepted with them or not. When Samuel said that the kingdom of Israel had been torn from him and given to a neighbour better than he, Saul’s response revealed his need to look good before the people. He said, “I have sinned; yet honour me now, please, before the elders of my people and before Israel…” Being honoured before the people was, for him, more important than the fact that he had failed God and those he led.
The lesson here is this; insecure leaders crave the acceptance of men. Therefore, they are constantly obsessed with how people view them and whether or not they are liked. Their overwhelming need to be accepted and honoured by all causes them to make decisions that are usually to the detriment of everyone beginning with themselves.
Prayer: Father, help me to be secure in your love and acceptance.
