Leadership Lessons Daily: Day 184

Scripture Passage: 1 Samuel 18:20-27
Leaders Go the Extra Mile
Saul required of David a hundred foreskins of the Philistines, as dowry for his daughter. But the Bible says, “Wherefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full tale to the king that he might be the king’s son in law.” Saul wanted a hundred foreskins but David gave him two hundred foreskins.
The lesson here is this; leaders go the extra mile. They go beyond what is expected of them. Many people go through life doing only the minimum that is required and so they never excel. Those who go the extra mile are few and far between therefore they stand out from and lead the crowd. Jesus, the ultimate leader, understood, lived and taught this leadership principle. In Matthew 5:41, He said, “And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.”
Prayer: Father, help me to go the extra mile.
