Leadership Lessons Daily: Day 189

Scripture Passage: 1 Samuel 22:7-23
Great Leaders Accept Responsibility for their Actions
David put Ahimelech in danger when he turned to the priest for help. That singular action resulted in the death of Ahimelech and his household because as soon as Saul learned Ahimelech had helped David, he saw him as an enemy and ordered his speedy execution alongside his family members. Abiathar alone escaped and ran after David. When he told David all that transpired, David said, “I have occasioned the death of all the persons of thy father’s house. Abide with me, fear not…..with me thou shalt be in safeguard.” He took responsibility for the death of Ahimelech which was a consequence of his action.
The lesson here is this; great leaders accept responsibility for their actions. They do not make excuses, play the blame game or sweep their actions under the carpet like they never happened. Great leaders acknowledge their actions, accept responsibility for same and seek ways to right their wrong acts.
Prayer: Father, help me to take responsibility for my actions.
