Leadership Lessons Daily: Day 218

Scripture Passage: 2 Samuel 21:15-18
Leaders Achieve Significance When Their People Become Greater Than They
Four hundred worthless men once joined themselves to David and he became their captain. In no time, they were accomplishing similar feats as David; killing lions, bears and giants. One day, in the midst of battle, David became faint and Ishbi-benob, a giant, would have slain him. But Abishai the son of Zeruiah, one of David’s mighty men, saved David and killed the giant. David had trained them so well that they had become better warriors than he was and thus able to deliver him in his day of trouble.
The lesson here is this; leaders achieve significance when their people become greater than they. A leader will gain influence every time he makes a positive impact in the life of an individual, and without influence no one is a leader. But when the impact is so substantial that the person becomes greater than he, then that is significance. And leaders ought to strive for significance.
Prayer: Father, help me to strive for significance.
