Leadership Lessons Daily: Day 219

Scripture Passage: 2 Samuel 21:15-18
Leaders Are a Light to Those They Lead
When David became faint in battle, Ishbi-benob, a giant, would have slain him. But Abishai saved David and killed the giant. Then, David’s mighty men said to him, “thou shalt go no more out with us to battle, that thou quench not the light of Israel.” In their words, David was the light of the nation of Israel.
The lesson here is this; leaders are a light to those they lead. One online dictionary has defined light as, “the natural agent that stimulates sight and makes things visible.” This is exactly what leaders are to their followers. When the leader is taken away, the light is put out and the people stand still in darkness. Some grope, trying, without any success, to move forward, because it is impossible to move forward without light. Leaders therefore play an important role in the advancement of their people as anyone who will go forward will require light.
Prayer: Father, make me a light to those I lead.
