Leadership Lessons Daily: Day 220

Scripture Passage: 2 Samuel 24:1-17
Leaders Have Compassion for Those They Lead
When David counted the people of Israel, a plague broke out that led to the death of thousands. The Bible says, “And David spake unto the Lord when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said, Lo, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly; but these sheep, what have they done? Let thine hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father’s house.” David was apparently concerned by the death of his people. A concern which was born out of compassion.
The lesson here is this; leaders have compassion for those they lead. Every time they see their people suffer, they are disquieted. A leader who does not care about the plight of his people will never gain influence with them, because people know if their leader truly cares about them. Where there is no influence, there is no true leadership, only the occupation of a leadership position.
Prayer: Father, put compassion in my heart for those I am called to lead.
