Leadership Lessons Daily: Day 221

Scripture Passage: 2 Samuel 24:10-24
Good Leaders Do Not Exploit Those They Lead
After David counted Israel, a plague broke out that led to the death of thousands. And Prophet Gad said to David, “Go up, rear an altar unto the Lord in the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.” David approached Araunah to buy the threshing floor. Araunah, however, was willing to give it to him for free. He said, “Let my lord the king take and offer up what seemeth good unto him.” But David insisted, saying, “But I will surely buy it of thee at a price.”
The lesson here is this; good leaders do not exploit those they lead. A good leader loves people and uses things but a bad leader loves things and uses people to attain them. Herein lies the difference, which is always evident in a leader’s dealings with those he leads. A good leader constantly seeks ways to give while a bad leader constantly seeks ways to take, even forcefully.
Prayer: Father, help me to love people above things.
