Leadership Lessons Daily: Day 224

Scripture Passage: 1 Kings 2:12-46
Leaders Must Be Decisive
Solomon was a very decisive leader. He wasted no time in settling important matters. When Adonijah asked to marry Abishag, Solomon instantly ordered his death. Then he dealt with Joab and Abiathar who had supported Adonijah’s quest to be king. He did not kill Shimei but warned him to remain under house arrest. However, the day Shimei left his home, Solomon ordered his death.
The lesson here is this; leaders must be decisive. Decisive means to settle an issue. Leaders are problem solvers therefore decisiveness is imperative. And they must understand that not every decision will please everyone and this is okay. If the decision they take or wish to take is in line with their vision and will lead to the good of all in the long run, they are in order, even if it makes some people unhappy. Leaders are not circus clowns, therefore it is not their job to make everyone happy. They must remember this.
Prayer: Father, help me to be decisive.
