Leadership Lessons Daily: Day 259

Scripture Passage: Esther 7:1-8; 8:8
Great Women Possess Great Influence
When Esther approached the king to ask for the reversal of a decree he had already signed with Haman, we must understand that she was asking for the impossible because in chapter 8 we are made aware of the fact that whatever decree is written and signed by the king can’t be changed (I believe this is what affected Vashti so that even when the king’s anger was pacified he was unable to bring her back because a decree had been issued against her). But, when it came to the decree that the king issued against the Jews, Esther was able to get him to reverse it. This is great influence.
The lesson here is this; great women possess great influence. And especially with their husbands. This is as a result of their being good followers. Influence is a requirement for leadership and as John Maxwell says, “Leadership is influence, nothing more, nothing less.” And it is important to note that influence can only be earned.
Prayer: Father, help me to have influence where it matters.
