Leadership Lessons Daily: Day 265

Scripture Passage: Esther 4:1-17
Those who are Prepared to Perish Seldom Perish
When Mordecai asked Esther to save the Jews, she feared for her life and made excuses. Mordecai responded thus, “For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place…….and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” These words brought forth the saviour in Esther. She vowed to deliver her people in their darkest hour, and sealed that vow with the famous six words, “and if I perish, I perish.” She did not perish, rather she saved the Jews from perishing and became a national hero.
The lesson here is this; those who are prepared to perish seldom perish. Jesus rightly said that those who want to save their lives will lose it and those who want to lose their lives will find it. A willingness to serve others even to one’s own detriment has led many to greatness. True leaders understand this.
Prayer: Father, give me the grace to stand up for what is right.
