Leadership Lessons Daily: Day 270

A Lesson from the Life of Bishop David O. Oyedepo
Only Secure Leaders Can Get Their People to Line Up With the Vision
Bishop David Oyedepo is one of the greatest ministers of the gospel in this generation. As it is his birthday today, I decided to do a lesson from his life. Recently, I heard him speak about Covenant University (the higher institution that is part of the education arm of his ministry). According to him, in the early days he was very tough on students and lecturers alike as he got them to line up with the vision. This was certainly not party time and obviously not everyone was having fun. But today, Covenant University is rated number one in West Africa.
The lesson here is this; only secure leaders can get their people to line up with the vision. This is not an easy task and certainly not for the insecure leader who wants to be liked by all. Only secure leaders are able to achieve this. They understand that not everyone will like the leader and for them this is okay. Truth is, the leader who wants everyone to like him will never succeed in getting them to line up with the vision. He also will not succeed in fulfilling the vision. As John Maxwell has said, the leader is not a clown and he is not running a circus but an organisation. Leaders do well to remember this.
Prayer: Father, take me from circus clown to leader.
