Leadership Lessons Daily: Day 272

Scripture Passage: 2 Samuel 21:1-7
Great Leaders Strive to Keep Their Word
When the Gibeonites asked for the lives of seven of Saul’s sons, David did not hesitate, according to the Bible, he said, “I will give them.” However, the Bible goes on to say, “But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of the Lord’s oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.” Jonathan was long dead, but David remembered the oath he had sworn to Jonathan and honoured it.
The lesson here is this; great leaders strive to keep their word. For such, their word is their bond. They do not give take their word lightly. If and when they give their word, they do everything in their power to keep it. The one to whom they gave the word may not be around to hold them accountable but great leaders hold themselves accountable.
Prayer: Father, help me to be a keeper of my word.
