Leadership Lessons Daily: Day 274

Scripture Passage: Nehemiah 6:1-4
The Work Stops When the Leader Stops
When Nehemiah arrived in Jerusalem to rebuild the walls, Sanballat and Tobiah opposed him and sought to distract him from the job at hand. On one occasion, they requested that he meet with them, but Nehemiah answered thus, “I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down; why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you?” Nehemiah was a wise leader and understood that his absence from the work would lead to the termination of same.
The lesson here is this; the work stops when the leader stops. And whatever stops the leader has succeeded in stopping the vision. Therefore, the leader is usually the target of the opposition which seeks to abort the vision. The leader cannot afford to allow anyone or anything stop him. He must keep going, for if he fails to give in, the opposition will eventually give in.
Prayer: Father, give me the strength to keep going despite the opposition.
