Leadership Lessons Daily: Day 278

Scripture Passage: 1 Samuel 9:6-8
Weak Leaders Accept Defeat Even Before They Begin
Saul was on a mission to find his father’s missing asses. Just when he decided to bring the search to an end, his servant advised that they see a man of God who would give them direction. But Saul said, “But, behold, if we go, what shall we bring the man? For the bread is spent in our vessels, and there is not a present to bring to the man of God: what have we?” Saul’s words are a clear indication that he saw no way out.
The lesson here is this; weak leaders accept defeat even before they begin. They are full of excuses. They look at what is not available. They see impossibilities instead of possibilities. They tell you that it cannot be done and then proceed to tell you why even before they try. Their words sow seeds of fear and discouragement in the hearts of others.
Prayer: Father, give me the strength of character required to succeed as a leader.
