Leadership Lessons Daily: Day 281

Scripture Passage: Nehemiah 2:17-20
The Leader Must Have a Response for the Opposition
When Sanballat, Tobiah and Geshem, laughed Nehemiah and the people of Judah to scorn, Nehemiah did not remain silent. He spoke out against the opposition. The Bible says; “Then answered I them, and said unto them, the God of heaven, he will prosper us; therefore we his servants will arise and build: but ye have no portion, nor right, nor memorial, in Jerusalem.”
The lesson here is this; the leader must have a response for the opposition. A word that tells the opposition that he is in charge and not intimidated. When leaders respond to the opposition, they motivate their people and strengthen them mentally and otherwise for the task ahead. They also silence the opposition. However, if the leader remains silent, the opposition will continue to speak words that weaken and frighten the people until they abandon the work. Leaders cannot afford to remain silent in the face of opposition.
Prayer: Father, give me a mouth and wisdom that the opposition cannot gainsay nor resist.
