Leadership Lessons Daily: Day 284

Scripture Passage: Nehemiah 2:11-17
Good Leaders Help the People See Why
When Nehemiah finally decided to communicate to the people, his vision to rebuild the broken down walls of Jerusalem, this is what he said. “Ye see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lieth waste, and the gates thereof are burned with fire; come, and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we be no more a reproach.” He invited the people to buy into his vision to rebuild the broken walls but more importantly, he gave them a cogent reason to do so.
The lesson here is this; good leaders help the people see why. It is not enough for the leader to communicate the vision; he must help the people see the need to buy into the vision. Until the people have a valid reason, they will not commit wholeheartedly to the pursuit of the vision.
Prayer: Father, help me to communicate my vision effectively.
