Leadership Lessons Daily: Day 286

Scripture Passage: Nehemiah 5:14-19
Good Leaders Do Not Burden Those They Lead
The Bible says concerning Nehemiah, “Moreover from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even unto the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that is, twelve years, I and my brethren have not eaten the bread of the governor.” Nehemiah did not eat the bread of the governor because he did not wish to further burden the people. His desire was to serve and not to be served. He continued to build the wall and he did not buy any land.
The lesson here is this; good leaders do not burden those they lead. This is because their desire is to add value to those they lead. Good leaders are givers, constantly seeking to give their time, and resources for the advancement of others. Good leaders are always a blessing and never a burden.
Prayer: Father, help me to be a giver and to seek ways to add value to others.
