Leadership Lessons Daily: Day 292

Scripture Passage: Job 1:1-5
Leaders Who Don’t Train Their Followers Will Constantly Make Atonement for Them
The Bible says concerning Job’s children, “And his sons went and feasted in their houses…and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them. And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them….and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, it may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.” Obviously, Job had not transferred his values and philosophies to his children via training. Therefore, he could not vouch for their behaviour and continually feared that they had sinned.
The lesson here is this; leaders who don’t train their followers will constantly make atonement for them. This is burdensome and distracting as the leader repeatedly seeks ways to make amends for actual or perceived wrongdoings. Training is the way out.
Prayer: Father, help me to see the benefits of training.
