Leadership Lessons Daily: Day 308

Scripture Passage: Matthew 7:3-5
The First Person to Lead is Yourself
Jesus taught saying; “And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.”
The lesson here is this; the first person to lead is yourself. Charity begins at home. If you seek someone to develop, start with yourself. If you desire to help others improve, begin by improving on yourself. Until you are successfully leading yourself, you have no business trying to lead anyone else. It will amount to hypocrisy. Only when you have added value to yourself will you have any value to add to others.
Prayer: Father, help me to take care of myself before I attempt to take care of others.
