Leadership Lessons Daily: Day 315

Scripture Passage: Matthew 13:24-28
Not Every Bad Seed Is Sown by the Leader
When things go wrong, it is very easy to turn around and blame the leader. It is very easy to accuse him of making bad choices. However, Jesus said, “The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field. But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.” The man sowed good seed in his field (organisation, team, family) and one who hated him came and sowed tares.
The lesson here is this; not every bad seed is sown by the leader. Some bad seeds are sown by people who hate the leader and his vision and seek to destroy it. Such are able to succeed when the leader is “asleep”, that is, not alert and not discerning. Therefore, a good leader must be alert in order to discern the enemy before he strikes. Jesus knew who would betray Him before it happened.
Prayer: Father, help me to be a discerning leader.
