Leadership Lessons Daily: Day 325

Scripture Passage: Luke 1:5-14; 57-63
The Leader Who is Silent Will Have Another Speak for Him
Zacharias’ vision was that a son would be born to him and that son would be named John. However, when the time came to name the child, Zacharias was silent, having lost his ability to speak. Those who were present immediately spoke for him. The Bible says, “And they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.”
The lesson here is this; the leader who is silent will have another speak for him. And this can be dangerous as the one speaking for the leader may not necessarily be speaking the mind of the leader. Those who called the child Zacharias were not speaking the mind of Zacharias. But because he was silent they spoke anyway. The leader must speak up for himself at all times. And if he does require a spokesperson, it is his responsibility to ensure that the spokesperson knows and speaks his mind.
Prayer: Father, help me to convey my thoughts with boldness and clarity.
