She was raised in a small town in Louisiana and by the time she reached eighteen, had experienced many hardships, which rendered her homeless, unforgiving, depressed, and suicidal. She was a high school drop-out, but a strong desire to better her life caused her to return to school and earn her GED after which she began attending John Tyler Community College, studying acting. She is author of over thirty books including the book titled, Refuse To Lose. In this interview, Demetria opens up on the many challenges she has faced; from a mother who did not want or love her, to a father who was an alcoholic. And from a school system and teachers that gave up on her stating that she would amount to nothing, to an uncle who tried to rape her.
