DOZ Show Episode 70 – Uche Anyanwagu MD PhD

Uche Anyanwagu is the guest in this episode of DOZ Show. He (yes, that’s right) is an Associate Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the School of Medicine, University of Nottingham. He researches Clinical Epidemiology focusing on Cardiovascular and Metabolic events associated with the use of Insulin and novel glucose-lowering agents in Type 2 Diabetes. Also, he is a creative writer, poet, and social critic and takes pleasure in using simple stories about everyday situations to provoke a change in people’s mindsets and assessment of their well-being. As a young child observing his father’s ailing health, he made a promise to his dad that he would become a doctor and cure him of diabetes. His father would die shortly after this pronouncement but Uche would go on to fulfil his promise against all odds and in 2017 win the nomination for the best research in Type 2 Diabetes in the UK. This man had limited opportunities as he pursued his dreams but what opportunities he did have he maximised. Listen as Uche shares his journey of going from the rural parts of Nigeria to the UK where he obtained a PhD and of course paid a visit to the Queen of England. His journey and success are proof that our limitations are only in our mind.  Be inspired!
