Scripture Passage: Numbers 22:21-33
Don’t Pass Judgement Before You Have the Facts
As Balaam journeyed, riding on his ass, the animal suddenly seemed to develop a mind of its own and wouldn’t do what Balaam wanted. She turned aside out of the way. She thrust herself onto the wall and crushed Balaam’s foot against the wall. Finally, she fell down under Balaam. Each time, Balaam hit the ass, punishing her for what he judged as acts of disobedience. Later, he realised that the ass had seen an angel sent to kill him and what appeared to be acts of disobedience were actually acts to save his life.
The lesson here is this; leaders must refrain from passing judgements until they have the facts. If a person has acted in disobedience, try to understand why especially when it is unlike them to do so. Don’t be like Balaam who was quick to judge and punish a loyal ass only to discover that she was trying to save him.
Prayer: Father, give me the patience to understand those I lead.
