Scripture Passage: Numbers 25:1-4
Judgement Begins With the Leader
When the children of Israel committed whoredom with the daughters of Moab and went to the sacrifices of their gods, the anger of God was kindled against Israel. God said to Moses “Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the Lord against the sun, that the fierce anger of the Lord may be turned away from Israel.” In judging this act of disobedience, God began with the leaders of the people.
The lesson here is this; judgement begins with the leader, because a people’s behaviour or culture is usually a reflection of the values of their leader(s). The people become what their leader is. A good leader models right values and will not watch in silence should his people act contrary. He will instantly call them to order as failure to do so will result in bearing the brunt of their foolishness.
Prayer: Father, give me the grace to be a good role model to those I lead.
