DOZ Monologues Episode 1
The story is set in Suleja Prison and explores the experiences of women inmates, focusing on Egodi and the narrator Anwuli. The episode reveals the harsh realities of prison life, the backgrounds of various inmates, and the complex character of Egodi.
DOZ Monologues Episode 2
Egodi Odogwu recounts her tragic life story, marked by early loss, misguided trust, and devastating consequences. Her narrative reveals how a single encounter with an older man named Lucas altered her dreams and led to a series of hardships, culminating in imprisonment.
DOZ Monologues Episode 3
The story follows Nurse Chinelo, affectionately known as Nelo, who experiences a particularly challenging day. It begins with her dealing with a personal matter at the bank, where she faces sexual harassment from a man in the queue. At work, Nelo faces more challenges. She is sexually harassed by her boss, who makes inappropriate advances towards her. The story highlights the struggles and injustices faced by women, particularly in a society that often devalues and disrespects them.
DOZ Monologues Episode 4
This episode of DOZ Monologues tells the story of Boma and her mother, highlighting the struggles of life in a slum and the impact of choices on one’s future. It illustrates themes of perseverance, regret, and hope through a conversation between Boma and her mother about their past and the transformative reunion with an old friend.
DOZ Monologues Episode 5
The story follows Rume, a young woman who is nearing the end of her National Youth Service Corps in Nigeria. Unlike her friends Doreen and Felicity, who have secured permanent jobs, Rume is anxious about her future as her workplace, Nigeria Airways, is downsizing. One Saturday, after a tiring night out with friends, Rume goes to work and encounters a demanding customer. Later, she meets Michael Hendricks, an American visitor who promises to introduce her to Nansak Danjuma, a highly influential and affluent member of the Federal House of Representatives.
DOZ Monologues Episode 6
Aisosa returns to London from a trip to Nigeria, deeply shaken by the revelation that her own mother had attempted to kill her over a house. The story delves into Aisosa’s troubled relationship with her manipulative and selfish mother, who had always prioritised her own desires over her family’s well-being. Despite Aisosa’s intelligence and ambition to become a medical doctor, her mother pressured her to go abroad to earn money and build a house, leading to a series of unfortunate events.
DOZ Monologues Episode 7
The story revolves around Arit, who is fed up with her eight-year marriage to Pastor Jeremiah Essien. Despite being a pastor, Jeremiah is hypocritical and manipulative, often advising women to submit to their husbands while he himself engages in infidelity and other immoral behaviours. Arit recounts various instances of Jeremiah’s misconduct, including his inappropriate relationships with other women and his failure to hold men accountable for their actions. The final straw comes when Jeremiah asks Arit to give her blessing for him to marry another woman, Biola, who has been financially supporting his church. Arit refuses and decides to leave him, realising that she has been living in a facade of a perfect marriage for too long.
