Scripture Passage: Numbers 11:4-17
When the Burden is Shared the Load is Lighter
When the children of Israel complained one more time, a weary Moses said to God, “Wherefore hast thou afflicted thy servant? And wherefore have I not found favour in thy sight, that thou layest the burden of all this people upon me? Have I conceived all this people?” God’s response to Moses’ cry was to lighten his load. He said, “Gather unto me seventy of the elders….and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.”
The lesson is this; Moses quickly reached breaking point because he bore the burden alone. When leaders bear the burden alone, they become easily weary and this may lead to a breakdown and inability to fulfil the vision. However, when the burden is shared with others, the load becomes lighter and they can make progress without feeling overwhelmed.
Prayer: Father, give me wisdom to share the burden.
