Scripture Passage: Numbers 11:24-29
Secure Leaders are Happy When Others are Empowered
In a bid to lighten the load that Moses carried, God said, “Gather unto me seventy of the elders….and I will take of the spirit which is upon thee and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.” Moses did as instructed and God took the spirit upon Moses and placed it on these men. As soon as this happened, they all began to prophesy including Eldad and Medad who remained in the camp. Joshua thought this was wrong and asked Moses to forbid them but Moses answered, “Enviest thou for my sake? Would God that all the Lord’s people were prophets, and that the Lord would put his spirit upon them.”
The lesson is this; when a leader is secure, he is happy to see other people empowered. However, when a leader is insecure, he is threatened by the empowerment of others.
Prayer: Father, help me to be a secure leader.
