Scripture Passage: Numbers 12:1-10
Don’t Compare Yourself with the Leader
Miriam and Aaron, like many followers, tried to compare themselves with Moses. They said, “Hath the Lord indeed spoken only by Moses? Hath He not spoken also by us?” This was a big mistake. In response, God said to them; “If there be a prophet among you, I the Lord will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream. My servant Moses is not so.…with him will I speak mouth to mouth.” God simply told them that Moses was not in their class. No wonder, he was their leader.
The lesson is this; only the unwise compare themselves with their leaders (or anyone for that matter). When you compare yourself with your leader, like Miriam and Aaron, you will always fall short. Also, such comparison breeds rebellion. If you are not the leader accept this and follow humbly, remembering that good followership is a prerequisite to good leadership.
Prayer: Father, give me the grace to follow and not to compare myself with my leader(s).
