Scripture Passage: Numbers 27:1-8
Leaders Never Settle for the Status Quo
Five women, Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah, also known as the daughters of Zelophehad had a challenge. Their father was dead and he had no son. His inheritance would be passed to his brethren but these women rose up and said to Moses, “Give unto us a possession among the brethren of our father.” Interestingly, God supported their request and ordered that going forward, if a man died without having a son, his inheritance be given to his daughter.
The lesson here is this; leaders never settle for the status quo, rather they challenge it. These five women could have accepted the loss of their inheritance because they were women but they refused. They demanded a change from the norm and they got it, not only for themselves but for other women. Leaders always challenge the status quo because leaders see possibilities where others see impossibilities and because leaders are change agents.
Prayer: Father, give me the grace to rise up and challenge that which needs to change.
